Wellness Tips
Achieve total wellness of Body, Mind and Spirit with our weekly helpful tips:
Physical wellness
Start your day with breakfast
Breakfast fills your "empty tank" to get you going after a long night without food. And it can help you do better in school. Easy to prepare breakfasts include cold cereal with fruit and low-fat milk, whole-wheat toast with peanut butter, yogurt with fruit, whole-grain waffles or even last night’s pizza!
Get Moving!
It’s easy to fit physical activities into your daily routine. Walk, bike or jog to see friends. Take a 10-minute activity break every hour while you read, do homework or watch TV. Climb stairs instead of taking an escalator or elevator. Try to do these things for a total of 30 minutes every day.
Emotional wellness
Connect Your Body to Your Mind
Get your body involved when you’re feeling good.
Jump up and down or dance around when you’re in a good mood…
Yelp out loud and unleash a triumphant "Yahoo!" or "Yo-Ho!" when you’re in a celebratory stance!
Studies show that you can increase your happiness by just articulating it.
Be more forgiving
A forgiving heart can help counteract your feelings of depression, powerlessness and anxiety about future hurts.
The most fabulous part of this is that once you forgive, you can actually reduce your stress tremendously because you don’t hold the grudge or hurt or resentment or anger anymore in your heart. Do you know all the negative things you harbor actually stress you?
Forgiving others is a deed you do unto yourself and it’s a wonderful healing agent for your emotions.
Spiritual Wellness
Listen to your inner voice
Pay attention to your feelings, emotions, and thoughts, and trust your intuition. Your inner voice will often help you find your direction, but you need to stop and listen.
When a stream approaches a series of rocks, it has no preconceived plans for passing them.
It does not see the rocks as opponents or as threats to its own existence. The very fluid nature of water tells it how to rightly meet everything in its path. Let this natural wisdom also be in you. Meet everything with a free and flexible mind, which is not tied to past experiences. You will then meet all events without alarm, with quiet progress.
Intellectual
Read for fun
Pick up a newspaper or educational pamphlet. By choosing to read, you not only increase your intellect, you remain knowledgeable about current issues and past events.
Try to learn something new everyday.
Keep your eyes and mind open to new ideas and focus on learning something new each day.
Social
Explore your city
Make a point of visiting one new place in your city each month.
Talk to someone new
Initiate a conversation with someone you don’t know or have only met briefly. You may be surprised to discover common interests and a wealth of information.
Environmental
Recycle
Use paper, glass, and aluminum recycling bins in your community.
